Cosmic Carrot Coins: A Simple Homemade Dog Treat Recipe

Baking Under the Stars
At Lunar Treats, we believe that the best rewards are the ones made with love and wholesome ingredients. While our small-batch bakery in London, Kentucky is always here to supply your pup with artisan goodness, sometimes you just want to get your hands a little floury and bake something special yourself. Today, we are sharing a favorite recipe that captures the essence of our celestial theme: Cosmic Carrot Coins.
Why Carrots?
Carrots are a nutritional powerhouse for our canine companions. They are low in calories, high in fiber, and packed with beta-carotene, which supports eye health. When baked into a crisp coin, they offer a satisfying crunch that helps clean teeth while acting as a delicious, natural reward for your furry explorer.
The Cosmic Carrot Coin Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 cup finely grated fresh carrots
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce (the perfect binder)
- 2 tablespoons water (add more if the dough is too dry)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the egg and applesauce. Stir in the grated carrots until well combined.
- Gradually fold in the flour. Mix until a stiff dough forms. If it feels too crumbly, add water one tablespoon at a time.
- Roll the dough out on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use a small circular cookie cutter to create your 'coins.'
- Place on your baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
- Turn off the oven and let the treats sit inside as it cools to ensure they get that signature lunar crunch.
These treats can be stored in an airtight container for up to two weeks. Remember, treats should only make up 10% of your pup's daily diet. Happy baking from our kitchen to yours!
