Starlit Sweet Potato Chews: A Simple DIY Treat

At Lunar Treats, we believe the best snacks are made with love, intention, and just a few wholesome ingredients. Today, we are sharing a recipe for our Starlit Sweet Potato Chews—a favorite among our London, Kentucky pack for being both nutritious and satisfyingly crunchy. Sweet potatoes are a powerhouse of dietary fiber, vitamins B6 and C, and beta-carotene, making them the perfect base for your pup's next celestial snack.
Preparing Your Celestial Chews
To get started, preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C). Thoroughly wash and scrub two large sweet potatoes, leaving the skin on for extra nutrients. Using a sharp knife or a mandoline, slice the potatoes lengthwise into 1/4-inch thick strips. If you want to get creative, use a star-shaped cookie cutter to press shapes into the center of each slice before baking.
Baking for Perfection
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange your slices in a single layer, ensuring they don't overlap. Pop them in the oven for approximately 2.5 to 3 hours. We recommend flipping them halfway through the process to ensure an even, golden-brown finish. The goal is to dehydrate the potatoes until they are firm but still slightly chewy. Once they are finished, turn off the oven and let them cool completely inside while the door is cracked open—this helps them achieve that signature Lunar Crunch.
Storage and Serving
Since these treats contain no preservatives, store any extras in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week, or freeze them for up to a month. Because these chews are packed with fiber, start by offering one as an occasional reward during your evening stargazing sessions. Your pup will appreciate the natural sweetness, and you will love knowing exactly what is fueling their late-night zoomies. Happy baking, friends!
